Background/History
Born as the only child to Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy after a number of attempts, Carina was utterly doted upon as a child. Though Lucius initially hoped for a son, he couldn't deny the fact that an heir was an heir, and Carina continued to be the absolute light of his life. Her younger years were spent being spoiled with whatever she asked for, some things she didn't, and the best tutors money could buy; it's no stretch to say that she was spoiled beyond belief, and brought up to believe that she was better than virtually everyone around her. This attitude stuck with her into her later years, colouring her interactions with her peers, colleagues, and even some of her professors. Not only were her opinions of other people coloured by the idea that she personally was better than everyone else, it was only reinforced by the sense of inherent pride instilled in her by her family: the Malfoys are one of the great pureblood families, the Blacks another, and Carina was the product of both.

So not only did Carina always believe that she could get what she wanted if she merely fluttered her lashes or punctuated the words with a well-placed pout, but she knew that her family name was worth something: that is to say, her father held a position of power within the Ministry, and this enabled Carina to be able to use the ever-present threat: "My father will hear about this." She kept constant contact with her parents during her school years, promising that Lucius would most definitely hear about whatever it was that was troubling his daughter, and that swift action would be implemented to solve the problem, whatever it may be. An example of this is Carina's third year, when she was too proud to take proper precautions when it came to hippogriffs, and was thusly slashed across the arm. Though Carina remained relatively uninjured, she played the victim and had her father take the creature to execution. This is, of course, an example of exactly how much of a daddy's girl she is.

It's clear when Carina comes of age to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that her social skills rather left something to be desired: she is blunt and far too honest, in addition to continuing her father's legacy of bigotry. When she first arrives and meets Harry Potter, she offers him her hand in friendship - even at a young age, she sees the benefit of having an ally like the Boy Who Lived - by insulting both of those he had already met on the train, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, and suggesting that Harry doesn't get himself involved with the "wrong sort". Though her attempt is shot down in flames with a retort that she might be the wrong sort, she takes it all in stride. She is promptly Sorted into Slytherin without even a moment of pause, and is greeted with loud applause; it is clear that, though Carina might not have made any of her friends, the children of friends of her family are more than willing to welcome her with open arms.

In her second year, Carina manages to buy her way onto the Slytherin Quidditch team as their Seeker - after seeing Harry Potter become the youngest Seeker ever for Gryffindor, she is driven to keep up their rivalry outside the class- and common rooms. It's relatively clear through her remaining time at Hogwarts that she's driven largely by any way she can to best him. That said, she does have some skill, and her team manages to do very well against everyone but Gryffindor.

Come the summer before her sixth year at Hogwarts, Carina undergoes one of the most traumatic and life-changing events to date: she's forced into taking the Dark Mark and becoming the youngest Death Eater yet. Though both her parents oppose it violently, Bellatrix is the one to eventually convince the Dark Lord that it's the best course of action; he takes her advice and Marks Carina, thereby stirring up more distrust in Narcissa than previously obvious. This would eventually lead to the downfall of the Dark Lord as the world knew it.

After being Marked, Carina found herself in a very dark place in her life; not only was she expected to live up to the expectations of the Dark Lord, but she was all but expected to fill her father's shoes as right hand man when she had no prior experience. Wanting nothing more than to simply go back to her life before that summer, she all but shoved her friends away. Some went willingly, others with more shove than anything else. This was particularly evident in the case of Vincent Crabbe, when she used his apparent loyalty to her against him until his betrayal and death at the hands of his own Fiendfyre spell.

Personality
To say that she dislikes Potter is an understatement: she sees him as a rival in every way, but also as everything that she isn't. From a young age, she realises her flaws and fights to hide them from sight, as per her father's recommendations: a Malfoy never shows weakness. Because of this life lesson being drilled into her, she tends to put everyone around her down in order to, perhaps, make herself feel better about her numerous character flaws. She is an incredible bully, who often hides behind her group of 'friends' for protection.
